We call them Bright Beginners from the time they begin to crawl until they are walking.  When your baby begins crawling around, their world changes.  Watching is no longer enough to satisfy their curiosity of what they see.  Your baby uses hands as well as eyes to explore their world and you must always be one step ahead, always watching for danger as well as chances to share.  You will notice that everything is in the mouth during this time period.

Your baby loves repetition and it is reassuring in a strange world.  We capitalize on this by planning individualized activities that are carried out as close to a daily schedule as possible.  We begin playing games like Hide and Seek and Patty Cake.  We read to the babies and give them books of which they can learn to turn the pages.   As with the Watchful Wonders we also utilize activities from a published curriculum and our intention is to provide a variety of experiences that encompass physical, auditory and visual stimulation on a daily basis in addition to meeting your child?s basic needs.  The Bright Beginners benefit tremendously from the activities they encounter in this room and this makes the transition to Energetic Explorers seamless.

Questions & Answers

What does the center provide for my child each day?

  • Individualized crib, crib sheets, blankets, bibs and spoons
  • A large carpeted space for comfort during floor play
  • Age appropriate toys, board books, teething rings, swings and exersaucers
  • Lots of love and affection
  • Individualized activities as outlined above

What do I need to bring for my child each day?

  • Diapers and wipes can be brought in bulk and stored in your child?s cubby
  • Bottles need to be pre-mixed/prepared before arrival and well marked with your child?s name
  • Jar food (as needed) and other snacks as necessary
  • A change of clothing can also be stored in the cubby, but please change them out with the seasons and sudden growth spurts
  • When parents decide it is time for the child to have table food, a menu will be provided to you upon request and you can determine what your child can eat and supplement as necessary from home.

What types of table food does Providence provide?

  • A well balanced, kid-friendly menu is planned to meet the nutritional needs of growing children.  It includes items such as meatloaf, fish sticks, baked spaghetti, etc.
  • See our menu on our Nutrition Page

Can I visit my child?

  • This is encouraged at all levels as long as it does not interfere with your child enjoying his/her day.

Is there a set time for arrivals?

  • At this age a set time is not necessary, but we remind you that schedules even at this age will add to the security and comfort of your child.

What about pacifiers and bottles/sippy cups?

  • Sippys are actually encouraged at this time and pacifiers are permitted.
  • Please make sure pacifiers are marked with your child?s name and they have a clip to keep them secure.
